Fact sheet F2 · Passing score

What score do you need to pass the CWI?

AWS doesn't publish a CWI exam pass rate. What it does publish is the passing score: 72% on each of Part A, Part B and Part C, plus a 72% average across the three (AWS CWI Examination User Guide, September 2026, checked October 2026).

Passing score, each part

72%

You need at least 72% on Part A, Part B and Part C separately, and the simple average of the three must also reach 72%. Scores are reported to the nearest lower whole percent.

F2.1How the score is worked out

AWS divides the number you got right by the total number of questions, then cuts the result down to the whole percent below. A 71.9 goes on the letter as 71. A 71 is a fail, and AWS doesn't round up at the line.

Each part is judged on its own. Score 90 on Part C, 78 on Part B and 70 on Part A: the average comes to 79, but Part A still has to be sat again. The unscored pretest items on Part A and some Part C forms never count either way; the exam format page shows where they sit.

The associate level works off the same three parts. A CAWI needs at least 60% on each part (AWS QC1:2016-AMD1, clause 7.1, checked October 2026), and the credential carries less authority on the job. The differences are laid out in CWI vs CAWI.

On pass rates

AWS doesn't publish a pass rate for the CWI exam, overall or by part. This site doesn't print one. What makes the 72% line feel high is covered in is the CWI exam hard.

F2.2Terms on your score report

Part score
Correct answers over total questions on that part, cut to the whole percent below. 72 passes.
Composite score
The simple average of your three part scores. Also 72 to pass.
Preliminary score
The Prometric report emailed within two hours of finishing Part A or Part C. AWS confirms it later; timing is on the results and retakes page.
CAWI threshold
60% on each part, which earns the associate credential instead.

F2.3On the 72% line

Is the CWI exam graded on a curve?

AWS states a fixed passing score of 72% per part and describes no curve or scaling (AWS CWI Examination User Guide, September 2026, checked October 2026).

Is the passing score the same for every Part C code?

Yes. Part C needs 72% whichever code you chose (AWS Part C information sheet, February 2025, checked October 2026).

What does 60 to 71 on every part get me?

Not the CWI. At least 60% on each part is the CAWI line (AWS QC1:2016-AMD1, clause 7.1, checked October 2026), and the CAWI has its own experience rules; see CWI vs CAWI. Retest rules for a missed CWI part are on the results page.
